Hat erst im Alter von 44 Jahren mit dem Fliegen begonnen. Vorher Flugangst. Erst nachdem er in den Wintermonaten 95/96 vor seinem Vereinsbeitritt aktiv beim Umbau des Schulfalken mitgewirkt hatte, entschloss er sich das Fliegen zu erlernen.
Als im Jahre 1999 der damalige Vereinsvorsitzender Heinz Mühlenbruch aus gesundheitlichen Gründen sein Amt aufgeben mußte, wurde Hans-Otto Farnschläder gefragt, ob er sich zur Wahl (nur 2 Jahre) für das Amt des Vorsitzenden stellen würde. Gesagt getan. Aus den 2 Jahren sind nun schon 22 Jahre geworden.
